Craftsmanship

Estonia pianos - quality, handcrafted instruments since 1893. Please let us introduce to you our craftsmanship.

Our pianos are made of high quality materials and precious woods, properly seasoned to withstand areas with varying humidity levels.

ironESTONIA iron plates come from an Estonian company that makes these plates exclusively for our pianos. Some plates we purchase from a Czech company as well. Each plate is sand-cast, seasoned, and only the best plates are selected.

Thin layers of special Baltic birch are glued together in a press where they dry for six hours. Then they are taken out to stand for another two weeks. After drying, the wood is shaped according to exact measurements to form the rim. The keyboard, fallboard, legs, keybed and other details are crafted to complete the instrument. Unique, massive support beams add a level of structure well beyond that which is found in other pianos.

Ten thick layers of our polyester finish produce spectacular and durable results. The inner components of the piano are taken out when lacquering the outer parts of the rim, and all parts are covered with lacquer separately . Afterwards they are sanded and polished.

soundboardSoundboard. Here the soundboard is fabricated and completed. It is one of the most important parts of the piano, creating the rich and romantic ESTONIA sound. The soundboards are carefully chosen one by one for their growth rings and wood structure.

The soundboard is heated for twenty-four hours in a special kiln before it is put under the press, where it is then subjected to specific tensions. Thereafter the soundboard is hollowed according to the specific ESTONIA soundboard making tradition. Ths result is an ESTONIA grand piano sound - rich, deep, singing and powerful. ribbed

The ribbed soundboard is covered with the bridge which projects string vibration to the soundboard The height of the bridge is determined separately for each cast iron plate. Experienced craftsmen who follow precise guidelines set the exact location of the bridge and tuning-pins. The cuts of the bridge are all hand-made. Holes are drilled into the bridge and small pins are hammered into them. The bridge and its position are crucial to the energy which the strings project to the soundboard.

The soundboard is glued separately to the inner rim, and then the inner rim is glued to the outer rim. The cast iron plate is now set into the body of the piano. The pin-block is made of Delignite or Dehonit, both imported from Germany, and is set under the cast iron plate and fastened to it. stringmaker

The strings are from Röslau Company, Germany. The bass strings are made by specialist in our factory for maintaining the rich ESTONIA sound.

The stringmaker inserts a wire through the hole in the tuning-pin. The machine turns the pin three times, wrapping three wire coils around the pin. Each pin is placed through a hole in the cast iron plate and driven into the pin-block. ESTONIA pins are from the Biene Company, in Germany.

The keyboards for our pianos are handmade in our factory, or ordered from the Kluge rennerCompany from Germany. The special keycover material is i m p o rted from the Kluge Company.

All models are handmade, have Renner actions assembled at Renner in Germany, and premium Renner Blue hammers, which in return create the tone, touch and stability that is Estonia.

Positioning the keys. Because the musical aspect is so important at our pianos, each ESTONIA piano is played and evaluated by a professional pianist. Only after such musicperformance does the piano go b a c k to the final tuning, voicing and regulating. Very few piano companies have each piano played and evaluated by a pianist...

ESTONIA pianos are praised by world - renowned pianists for their professional keyboard touch and feel.
